Description
Located at the very top of Garuda Mall and overlooking the Police Grounds on Magarath Road, Sikander is not exactly what you would expect to find in the busy fast food atmosphere of a popular mall. The restaurant is well laid out, tables reasonably well spaced though on a busy Sunday afternoon please do not expect to go there to have a private conversation.
The food is nothing to write home about. The Sunday afternoon buffet is certainly value for money but not exactly the best Indian cuisine available in the city. The buffet consists of starters that are served hot at the table and then a rather limited set of dishes on regular buffet tables. Nothing we tasted made the Anonymous Foodie want to return though a buffet is certainly not the best way to grade a restaurant.
The ambience was a little tacky for what must be a new restaurant. In the unforgiving light of day, the tables were visibly chipped and the upholstery looked tired. The waiters are friendly, helpful and always at hand to get you an extra starter or clear your plates.
Getting There:
Sikander is located on the 5th floor of Garuda Mall just above the food courts. To get to Garuda Mall turn off Residency Road at Bangalore Central and follow the road down till the next intersection. Garuda is hard to miss. Its where the big traffic jam ends. Parking is usually available in the building itself though it might take some time and several trips around the side of the building till you find a spot. They can be contacted at +91 80 4125 2333.
Recommendations
Nothing stands out at the buffet. The menu mentions both Haleem and Raan which are likely to be good.
Ideal For:
A quick lunch if you are hanging around at the mall or dinner before a movie at the Inox. It is better than the noisy crowded self-service counters at the food court – but only just

Boy, did we have diametrically opposing experiences. Give it another try, maybe they’ll redeem themselves, what?
Hi there! I am a through and through foodie that also loves to cook and I have travelled to many parts of the world sampling great cuisine and trying to replicate THE great dishes too. I love your blog and wish there were more like this out there. I crave authentic cuisine in Bangalore, but finding the right places can be tough. Here are a few of my favorites in no particular order. Do visit them – I’m sure they’ll rate high up!
1. Fiorano – Italian, Koramangala, expensive but worth a try.
2. Khubay – Konkan coast, Koramangala, don’t miss the steamed or grilled whole pomfret, pork dishes are also good.
3. Shiok – Thai, vietnamese, malaysian, etc., Indiranagar, some dishes a little bit too spicy for me but on the whole quite authentic.
4. Soo Ra Sang – Korean, Koramangala, excellent barbecue – just like the one Anthony Bourdain had on his trip to S. Korea. The other dishes are great too. If you’re courageous enough to eat japanese, korean is a breeze. Melt in your mouth beef.
Recheck. Having tried almost every North Indian restaurant, I find Sikander, one of the best ones avialable in Bangalore.
I second anonymous foodie’s opinion on Sikander. Nothing to write home about.
As foodpower says, Kubay is pretty good. So is Soo Ra Sang.
Also try Kanua for Mangalore/southwest karnataka cuisine.
Kanua is located off Sarjapur Road about 1 km south from the ORR intersection.
I tried Sikandar several times. the buffet is average, but ordering from the menu in the evening was at least a match for the best food I’ve had in Bangalore
I have been to Sikandar quite a few times, right from the food, ambience everything was good, especially Chicken Shorba’s if you like them.
